11 08 2009

This is the first I’ve heard about this for some reason, but the new MN Gopher football stadium will be one of the first to receive LEED Certfication. Congratulations!

The stadium gained certification from the Green Building Council by being built on a formerly polluted site, unique stormwater retention, utilizing local and recycled materials and heat from the University’s steam plant.

Have a great day!

Japanese Beetles

31 07 2009

Hello! We have had a couple of Japanese Beetle sightings the last few days. They are getting fairly common in Minnesota the last few years.

The bugs are very destructive and defoliate plants with some of their favorites being Linden, Roses and Cotoneaster. You can kill them with contact insecticides but they lay eggs in the soil producing grubs the following year that damage the turf. The grub stage is the best to kill them and I’ll have a post next week with a great, natural way to get rid of them.

Have a great weekend!
